On Sunday, February 27, 2017 at about 1633 hours, Dispatcher Zack DeRego received a 9-1-1 call regarding a chocking infant in the Cottonwood area. The call was transferred to CAL-Fire; however Dispatcher DeRego also notified the patrol division over the radio if any units were in the area to respond.
Deputy Chris Niederberger responded to the residence where he found 8-month-0ld Charlotte with an airway obstruction. The infant was breathing, but the breathing was very labored. Deputy Niederberger took the infant from the caregiver and after applying several back blows he was able to dislodge a butterfly hair barrette from the infant’s mouth. The infant immediately began breathing normally.
